Each spring, 10,000 high school sophomores from across the country join one of HOBY’s 70 State Leadership Seminars to recognize their leadership talents and apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace and community.

What is the State Leadership Seminar (LS)? HOBY’s flagship program, the State Leadership Seminar, empowers high school sophomores to develop their leadership talents to become the leaders of their community. The seminar curriculum is based on the Social Change Model of Leadership and develops leadership from three perspectives: Personal Leadership, Group Leadership, and Leadership for Society. What do students do at the State Leadership Seminar?The 3-4 day seminar weekend is filled with interactive activities and workshops that allow students to discover their personal leadership strengths. After understanding leadership from three different perspectives, students then learn to cultivate their skills to lead others and make a positive impact in their community.
Who can join the State Leadership Seminar?The LS is only for sophomores, so don’t miss out! Students should visit their sophomore counselors if they are interested in participating.
Where and when is the State Leadership Seminar?Leadership Seminars take place between May and June of each year. Please visit the Seminar Dates and Locations page of our website for more information.
What is the registration fee? The registration fee varies across the country. School Administrators/Counselors can obtain this information by logging in to our online registration system with their HOBY school ID and password.
How do students register for the State Leadership Seminar?Students should visit their sophomore counselors if they are interested in participating in HOBY. Only School Administrators/Counselors can select and register students to represent their high school. After the student selections are made, School Administrators/Counselors login to the online registration system with their HOBY school ID and password to officially register students online.
